Seema Kennedy MP becomes new Pharmacy Minister

April 5, 2019

Seema Kennedy, the MP for South Ribble in Lancashire, is the new minister with responsibility for pharmacy.

Ms Kennedy was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health yesterday (April 4th) by Prime Minister Theresa May, with her ministerial brief including primary care, the public health system, and prevention and early intervention. She will also be the Ministerial lead for Public Health England, the Food Standards Agency and NHS Resolution.

Ms Kennedy has previously indicated an interest in small business, has supported local women’s health campaigns and is an advocate of Dementia Friends. However, her recent role as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister meant she was unable to speak in House of Commons debates.

PSNC Chief Executive Simon Dukes said:

“PSNC would like to congratulate the new Minister on her role; we look forward to meeting her at the earliest opportunity and to building on the collaborative working relationship we have established with the Department. We will ensure that Ms Kennedy is briefed on the value of community pharmacy and we hope to work with her to ensure that the full potential of community pharmacies is realised.”
