Storage of LFD test kits as the weather heats up

THIS CONTENT HAS NOW EXPIRED

As much of the country is predicted to see higher temperatures and more “summer-like” weather by the end of the week, with this carrying on throughout July and August, community pharmacy contractors participating in the NHS community pharmacy COVID-19 lateral flow device distribution service (“Pharmacy Collect) are reminded of the storage conditions for lateral flow device (LFD) test kits.

Test kits need to be stored in conditions that will preserve the integrity of the swab. Therefore test kits should be stored in a designated area away from direct sunlight, between 2-30°C as stated in the service specification.

If a contractor has concerns around how their stock of LFD test kits has been stored or encounters problems maintaining LFD test kits at the appropriate temperature as the warmer weather commences, they are advised to contact NHS Test and Trace at pharmacy.collect.queries@dhsc.gov.uk for further advice.
