A key part of PSNC’s role is communicating with audiences outside of pharmacy – such as politicians, charities and national media – to build support and gain advocates who can champion the sector on our behalf.

Pharmacy in the media

The Times (14th October 2021): Millions more patients will be referred to high street chemists rather than GPs under the Government’s plans to improve access to doctors.

Daily Mail (14th October 2021): Pharmacists will become the first port of call for most minor illnesses under plans being considered by Sajid Javid to free up GPs to deal with more serious cases.

Evening Standard and iNews (10th October 2021): Pharmacists are expected to be given the right to write prescriptions under plans being considered by Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

Telegraph (8th October 2021): A surge in demand for flu jabs has caused some pharmacies to run out of stock.

The Times (6th October 2021): Boots is trialling GP-style appointments for minor conditions with some of its pharmacists in a move that could reduce pressure on NHS services. The scheme involves pharmacists who had additional training allowing them to prescribe medicines as well as dispensing those recommended by doctors.

Sky News (4th October 2021): The Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIMp) has warned of delivery delays for medicines in some parts of the country but says it is managing the supply situation to ensure no disruption to patients and customers.

Express and The Times (2nd October 2021): Pharmacists have given warning that the fuel and haulage crisis is affecting supplies of vital medicines to pharmacies as Ministers announced that the army would begin delivering petrol from Monday.
