There are a number of organisations that represent and support the network of community pharmacies. The main representative bodies are listed below.

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC)

PSNC promotes and supports the interests of all NHS community pharmacies in England. It is recognised by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care as the body that represents NHS pharmacy contractors. PSNC works closely with Local Pharmaceutical Committees (LPCs) to support their role as the local NHS representative organisations.

PSNC’s goal is to develop the NHS community pharmacy service, to enable community pharmacies to offer an increased range of high quality and fully funded services that meet the needs of their local communities and provide value and good health outcomes for the NHS and the public.

PSNC works with NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) and other NHS bodies, and with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), to promote opportunities for the development of community pharmacy services and negotiate the contractual terms for the provision of NHS community pharmacy services.

Local Pharmaceutical Committees (LPCs)

The local organisation for community pharmacy is the Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC). The LPC is the focus for all community pharmacists and community pharmacy owners and is an independent and representative group. The LPC works locally with local NHS England teams, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Local Authorities and other healthcare professionals to help plan healthcare services.

There are around 70 LPCs throughout England. For more information about a specific LPC including contact details, please visit LPC Online to find a link to the relevant LPC’s website.

Other pharmacy bodies

Listed below are a number of other national pharmacy bodies that PSNC and LPCs regularly collaborate with. These organisations represent varying groups within pharmacy.

PSNC negotiates with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) on behalf of all NHS community pharmacies in England. Learn more about PSNC.
