Service specification

The service specification for the flu vaccination Advanced Service describes the requirements for provision of the service:

PSNC service guidance 2019/20

The service specification should be read alongside PSNC’s detailed guidance on the service:

PSNC Briefing 031/19: Guidance on the 2019/20 Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Advanced Service

Secretary of State Directions

The Directions provide the legal basis for the provision of Advanced Services. Amendments to the Pharmaceutical Services (Advanced and Enhanced Services) (England) Directions 2013 were made and signed on 22nd August 2019.

The Pharmaceutical Services (Advanced and Enhanced Services) (England) (Amendement) (No. 2) Directions 2019

These Directions have been amended a number of times since publication. The amendment Directions are printed in the Drug Tariff. PSNC has created a document which consolidates the 2013 Directions and subsequent amendments.

Patient Group Direction (PGD)

The national PGD provides the legal mechanism for administration of flu vaccination under the service; it should not be used for any other purpose. This PGD has been formally authorised by NHS England and NHS Improvement as the commissioner of the Advanced Service.

The authorisation is limited to those patient groups defined in Annex A of the service specification (see above) and who are over 18 years of age.
