Pharmacy Quality Scheme – Dementia-friendly environment checklist

Pharmacy Quality Scheme – Dementia-friendly environment checklist

Community pharmacy contractors passing the gateway criteria will receive a payment for the Pharmacy Quality Scheme if they meet one or more of the quality criteria bundles. The prevention composite bundle consists of five quality criteria, one of which is:

‘On the day of the declaration, the pharmacy has completed a specified dementia-friendly environment checklist which will be available in the NHS England & NHS Improvement Pharmacy Quality Scheme 2019/20 guidance in relation to the registered pharmacy premises and created an action plan which includes making some demonstrable recorded changes to the environment in line with the checklist, as appropriate’.

How to achieve this quality criterion

To meet the dementia-friendly environment checklist quality criterion, contractors are required to have completed, on the day of the declaration, a specified dementia-friendly environment checklist and have created an action plan which includes making some demonstrable recorded changes to the environment in line with the checklist, as appropriate.

The checklist and  action plan is available as Annex 11 in the NHS England and NHS Improvement Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) guidance. PSNC has made available a standalone version of the checklist and action plan:

PharmOutcomes support

Contractors also have the option of completing the dementia-friendly environment checklist and action plan on PharmOutcomes. Contractors are not required to complete the checklist and action plan on PharmOutcomes to meet the quality criterion. However, some contractors have expressed that they would prefer to complete this electronically; therefore, PSNC has worked with the PharmOutcomes team to make this available. This is available to all contractors free of charge as PSNC has agreed to use their PharmOutcomes licence to provide access to this support.

Once a contractor has logged into PharmOutcomes, the framework can be accessed by clicking on ‘Assessments’ and then the framework is listed under the title ‘Pharmacy Quality Scheme – Community Pharmacy Dementia Friendly Environment Checklist 2019’.

If a contractor has not used PharmOutcomes before, log in details can be obtained by sending a message to the PharmOutcomes helpdesk. Contractors will need to provide details of the pharmacy, contact information and an email address to issue the login details to.
