General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Your pharmacy team should be aware of the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on 25 May 2018.
The GDPR may have significant effects on pharmacy and the way we process and handle personal data, although the full implications and requirements of GDPR on community pharmacy still remain unclear. This event will hopefully bring some clarity for contractors and help them plan in anticipation of its implementation. Themes of the GDPR:

  • Refining/tightening up of existing concepts
  • Standardised law across the EU
  • New concepts in regulation; accountability, demonstrating compliance, designing compliance
  • Increased regulation/enforcement by ICO and data subjects
  • Enhanced rights for data subjects
  • Expectations of uniformity and portability

Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD)

On 9 February 2019, all 150,000 community pharmacies across the EU will be required to implement the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD).

This Directive, which seeks to reduce the risk of fake medicines entering the supply chain, will have a significant impact on all community pharmacies. Pharmacies will be required to change dispensing practices and run an authentication scan on every prescription medicine pack that they handle.

The event will cover:

  • What is the Falsified Medicine Directive
  • Implications for Community Pharmacy
  • Impact of Brexit
  • What you need to do to prepare

GPhC revalidation (England, Scotland and Wales)

The GPhC will be implementing a new revalidation framework for pharmacy professionals which will replace the current structure for evidencing continuing professional development (CPD); this will be implemented on 30 March 2018.

This event will focus on the key changes of the new framework and how it builds on the current CPD framework with the addition of two new elements – a peer discussion and a reflective account.
