Crown Pools, Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre
Are you looking for a physical activity intervention for customers? Are they up for the challenge?
The Great East Swim is a mass participation event that takes place annually at Alton Water. Participants swim distances between ½ mile and 10 kilometres. Suffolk County Council, in partnership with Suffolk Sport, is again funding outreach programmes to support 96 adults in the Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds areas to take part in the Great East Swim on 23rdJune 2018.
The outreach programme is targeted at adults over the age of 18 who are currently not very active (doing less than 0 -1 x 30 minute’s physical activity per week). The programme aims to create long term behaviour change and support those taking part to become more active for life. Prospective participants must be able to swim 50 metres at the start of the programme. The challenge is to swim ½ or 1 mile on the day of the Great East Swim.
The programme includes:
• regular training sessions, between April and June 2018, with qualified swimming teachers, to build fitness and develop swimming techniques for open water,
• free swimming passes for the duration of the programme,
• free wetsuit hire,
• entry to the Great East Swim on 23rdJune 2018,
• optional strength and conditioning sessions.
The programme package is worth over £200 per person. Participants will be asked to contribute £30 towards this cost.
If you know someone who might really benefit from taking part in the programme and who is currently not very active either through choice or a health condition and will be over the age of 18 at the start of the programme, please direct them to our website, https://www.suffolksport.com/greateastswim where information about the programme and how to register can be found, and posters and case studies for noticeboards downloaded. Please let me know if you would like some larger posters (A3-A1) printed and sent to you.
Should you require any further information regarding the programme please get in touch with the programme coordinator, Carol Lukins, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on 07955 735514. We look forward to welcoming your customers to the programme.
This programme is delivered in partnership by Sport England, Suffolk Sport, Suffolk County Council and supported by Abbeycroft Leisure, Ipswich Borough Council and Allied Health Professionals.
