Healthwatch co-production – a new promise of understanding between pharmacy staff and service users

October 4, 2021

Healthwatch Suffolk, Suffolk LPC and a small group of patients that helped shape the next PNA are coming together to discuss a potential project to co-produce an agreed set of ‘promises’ or a charter to help pharmacy staff and pharmacy users understand expectations and needs of each other. Something which is particularly important as we recover from lock-down into the new normal.

Initial discussions have taken place. There are all sorts of assumptions and expectations made from both sides which seems to lead to some disappointment. For example, being unaware of the complex ‘prescription journey’. This means all the steps between medications being prescribed by a doctor, to them ending up in a patients possession.  The idea is to work on creating a shared understanding from both sides.

We are looking for pharmacy staff of all levels to join patients in this exciting new approach – could your pharmacy be involved in co-production to improve understanding and communication for everyone?

Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, 1st December at 10:00am online so please do get involved if you can.
