Clinical Waste Collection
Please see below email regarding Clinical Waste Collection that was sent to all Pharmacies on 16th June 2021.
As you are aware, NHS England & NHS Improvement manage the contract for clinical waste provision and it has been brought to our attention that sometimes requests made directly to Stericycle for a change in service provision for GPs and Community Pharmacies can cause delays in the request being actioned/authorised. This is because NHSE England & NHS Improvement (NHSE & I) are required to authorise the change due to the financial impact the request will cause.
We have looked at how we can simplify this process and it has been agreed with effect from today that both GP and Community Pharmacies can submit their requests directly to Stericycle but must include NHSE & I within the communication who will then be able to approve. This will help to reduce the number of email communications that are sent as well as reduce the time for the request to be approved and actioned. This includes requests for:
- Additional bin requests
- Change in frequency
- Ad hoc collections
- Additional items
GPs and Community Pharmacies should send their clinical waste queries to SupportUK@STERICYCLE.com and must include their Stericycle account number, failure to do this may delay the process. You should then include email@example.com if it is a GP query or firstname.lastname@example.org if it is a community pharmacy query.
Please note this is for general day to day clinical waste and not for clinical waste queries relating to Local Covid Vaccination Sites (LVS).
