NHS Primary Care Research for Community Pharmacy

Research and Community Pharmacy

My name is Clare Daly and I am a pharmacist employed by NIHR (research arm of the NHS) to promote and support research in community and primary care pharmacy. I have been in post a while and supported 105 pharmacies across Eastern to be involved in research.

The studies involve pharmacy teams helping to support an established approved study, where the roles and remuneration would be given at an ‘expression of interest’ stage allowing you to assess your interest, capacity and capability.

I can also support pharmacists to investigate their own research question by signposting to the appropriate support.

I will use this space to advertise suitable studies for you to get involved in, and any relevant training opportunities.

Urgent Public Health Study - PRINCIPLE Study

The PRINCIPLE study, run by the University of Oxford, is funded by the UK government as a national priority study to find treatments for COVID-19. The study aims to find treatments that reduce hospital admission and speed recovery for people in the community with symptoms of COVID-19 (a new or worsening continuous cough and/or a high temperature which started less than 15 days ago).

People must be aged 65 and over, or aged 50-64 with underlying health conditions to be included in the study.

More information on the study can be found here: www.principletrial.org

PLEASE can you display PRINCIPLE Patient Recruitment Poster_v1.2 19.05.20 clearly advertising the study, and please mention it if you ever are asked about COVID symptoms.

Pharmacy is a key way of reaching patients for the study, which ultimately will improve patient care.

Thank you for your help in this.
